In the spring of 1996, Pastor Bernard, founding pastor of the Pentecostals of Ascension, started the Sunday School Evangelist outdoors. As a result, Pastor Bernard and Co-Pastor Charles Hatcher started the bilingual services on the last Friday in July 1996.

At this time, Ruben Alvarez was preaching to his brothers who resided in Ascension parish. One night, Pastor Bernard Ruben received a call asking him to baptize his brother Marcelino, in the name of Jesus.

Pastor Bernard received a call from Wilfredo Garcia who was looking for a Pentecostal church after having researched about the doctrine in the book of Acts. When he finished his research, Wilfredo agreed to attend the bilingual service.

Pastor Jose Lopez came with his congregation form Metairie and preached in Spanish for many months. Pastor Elton Bernard and his wife Loretta A Bernard also preached with interpreters. Our English-speaking congregation also attended these services and jambalaya was served after the service, and the group grew quickly.

Brother Jorge Mata helped each week for a year and a half. A key to the foundation of this church was letting all the money that was generated in Spanish services be donated to the Hispanic church. Another important factor was that the Pentecostals of Ascension Hispanic congregation allowed us to use the facilities and supported growth with many prayers and assistance services.

February 2001, the church was sufficient to buy 3.15 acres of land. An opening ceremony was held in June 2001. This building is now called the Evangelina Activity Center and contains an auxiliary sanctuary, gymnasium, and activity rooms.

Wilfredo Garcia was elected as Associate Pastor at October 25, 2002. The church camp now consists of 6 acres of land, two football fields, and a playground for children, 120 parking spaces, and 22,500 square foot building containing classrooms, offices and a sanctuary. Two other buildings complete the property, a 4,000 square foot office building that the church rented to other companies and a Hispanic store.

The combination of burning debt and the ceremony of laying the first stone took place at September 9, 2006. Presbyter and Mrs. James MK and government officials were our guests of honor. The Apostle Peter wrote, “Our God and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him is glory both now and forever. Amen. ”

O yes! To God be the glory!
